What Types of Glass Break Sensors Are Available?

Glass break sensors come in two technologies. The first type is a vibration sensing device that senses the vibration of the window glass panel when it is struck. This sensor is typically hard wired directly to a controller and you would need one on every window that you want to monitor.

The second type employs a frequency sensing technology that compares the frequency of the "thud" when the window is struck to the frequency of the shattering glass. The sensor must detect both frequencies in the correct order for the detector to go into alarm. The advantage to this type is that one sensor can monitor multiple windows if the room is acoustically suitable and comes in wired or wireless versions. Your security professional can help you decide on the best approach.
